So the book I brought to work tonight is failing to engage me. Sorry Ms Greenlaw, your other books were better. I will muddle through and finish it tonight but it is not one I will be recommending to others.
The book has many details – sometimes pages worth – that while fascinating, make you forget the topic of conversation between the two characters. I have to keep flipping back a few pages to get the jest of it again after reading two pages details. Put the rhetoric somewhere other then in the middle of the dialog.
I’m not saying the book is a total waste – it isn’t – but I am disappointed in it. Her first book was so engaging that I sent a copy to my niece hoping that she would read it and be inspired – she needed to know that there were a lot of jobs out there even if unconventional. She seemed to be unsure of what she wanted to do – she was 15 yrs old at the time.
Later: I finished the book – managing to squeeze most of it in at work & finishing it up here at home. I thought it was predictable but not bad for a first time work of fiction. I enjoyed it more once I started skimming the unending details about the small town and the boats to concentrate solely on the pertinent information.
