Outside the parched grass strains to keep the moisture the sprinklers spewed out this morning. Under a hot sun, the moisture evaporates almost as quickly as it hit’s the thirsty lawn. Sidewalks blister the feet of those silly enough to walk barefoot across them – shoes are a necessity in Paradise.
Light blue skies are dimpled with the occasional fluffy white cloud. A jet goes by tens of thousands of feet up leaving behind a white stream so in some areas the sky looks striped. I wonder if those leaving are happy to be going home?
A slight breeze lightly kisses all it passes while failing to offer a respite from the heat. By evening it will be so still and thick outside it will be like walking through a thick fog. How the ships of yesteryear found their way through the fog is beyond me. Now, of course, they have radar and sonar depth gauges.
Out in the ponds, rivers and lakes throughout the County, alligators are soaking up the sun. Every little bit they will submerge to cool down. Some of the gators are huge, making me wonder what the heck they eat that promotes such growth.
As I gazed out at the bay, I wondered why there weren’t many boats out today. It is Saturday isn’t it? Maybe it is too hot to be out on the water. The pelicans don’t seem to mind though. So many people are terrified to jump overboard to cool off – there are sharks in them there waters.
Home once more, in my air conditioning, I marvel that we haven’t even begun to hit the hottest weather yet. At least, as the jet stream changes, we will start getting more rain.
The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do. –Galileo Galilei
