Do’s and Don’ts In the Water

Since I’m sharing about sharks – let me share a couple of things from Peter Benchley’s Shark Trouble book on the do’s and don’ts of ocean swimming:

Don’t go in the water if you are bleeding.

Don’t swim or surf in water near seals or sea lions.

Don’t go swimming at dawn, dusk, or night.

Don’t swim in turbid or murky waters.

Don’t swim alone or far from shore. Lone swimmers are more vulnerable to prey.

Don’t go swimming where people are fishing.

Don’t go swimming in areas sharks are known to congregate or feed.

Don’t wear jewelry or shiny metal in the water.

Don’t swim in the ocean with your dog. Dogs make erratic, ungainly motion when they swim which can attract a curious shark.

Don’t make any erratic movements such as splashing, kicking, or tusslling with a buddy – these are all signals to sharks to come investigate.

Remember, the chances of a shark bite is slim to none so relax and have fun. :-)

Grace…again

Just a quick note on Saving Grace. I was very proud of her that there were no sex scenes in last nights episode. Well, that was until the last five minutes where she once again got naked and had sex with a coworker. Of course, the sequence is that you don’t really know if she is dreaming or if it actually happened but that is beside the point.

So far there hasn’t been one episode where she hasn’t gotten naked and slept with someone. I guess the only sin the writers can come up with that she needs saving from is sex.

Tidbits

I thought I’d share a few more tidbits on sharks. We were discussing Hammerheads yesterday so here is what I know about them.

Hammerheads can grow in excess of 15 feet.

Hammerheads have a gel like substance between their eyes that can detect electrical pulses. This is of great use to them since their eyes are so far apart. Every animal puts off some sort of an electrical pulse which makes this ability handy for hunting.

A hammerhead in excess of 15 feet could eat a man of regular stature in two bites.

Hammerheads are not particularly fascinated by man – but as with any shark, they might take a bite just to check your bone density. :-)

Sorry Folks

I know I should be writing more on my blog but I have been so busy lately. I cleaned out the cubby yesterday but ran out of time so half the crap is in the living room and the other half is on the patio.

Here it is after 1pm already so I will have to start getting ready for work here shortly. See, never enough time. I didn’t get a walk in either today…

I don’t have anything new and exciting to share. Last night at work the calls were steady but pretty routine – lots of falls, sick people, and some with breathing problems.

I was in the fire pod and we got on the subject of sharks so that pretty much kept us entertained. One of the guys called up several different files of shark sightings in our area. Some were of fishermen trying to catch fish only to have the sharks beat them to it. Very cool videos. One was of a hammerhead stealing a big fish as a fisherman was trying to wrestle it in. I’ve never seen a hammerhead in action like this so it was very interesting. Glad I wasn’t the fish though.

It is hot and humid here today. Hopefully the cooler weather is around the corner because I’m rather tired of this heat.

My youngest sister’s husband’s father died night before last – I swear we’ve had our share of deaths lately. He wasn’t someone I knew but as it effects my sister and her husband, I still feel badly for them.

Well, that’s all folks. I work 12 hrs each of the next two days so don’t know how fast I’ll get another post up.

Be safe and remember, its a jungle out there.
