Crazy…

I have more I could write about – we had a shooting in my neighborhood, a home invasion, two fires and a couple of fights but I’m too tired to think about them anymore.

One of the benefits as time goes on is that I start forgetting the calls much faster then I did at first. Involves less stress that way.

Lost in the Swamp…

Had one caller who was crying and whispering. All I got from her was that she was “lost in the swamp.” Her phone went dead and I couldn’t reach her again.

After a seemingly endless amount of time, I got her address from her cell phone company and called her house. Her boyfriend advised that she had gone bike riding at 7pm but that at 8:30 pm when he went looking for her, he found her bike behind a Publix grocery store. He was very worried about her.

It seriously was one of those calls where you just have to stand around to wait for the ending. After an hour of searching, they found the woman in the woods by the Publix. She was drunk and became belligerent with responding officers. I don’t know if they arrested her or not. I told the sergeant that I’d like them to hold her so I could come and smack her for worrying me so much.

It was such a frustrating call. Drives me nuts. Next time I get a call about someone lost in the swamp, I may not believe that person because this woman was lying to get attention.

Suicides Galore

We had quite a few suicide threats and attempts tonight. What is in the water? I had four, my podbuddy on my left had three and my podbuddy on the right had four.

NONE were successful attempts I must add. The police did have to tazer one of the subjects though because he wouldn’t give up the knife he had in his hands.

Another one walked into a Walmart bleeding from both wrists. She told them she had wanted to die but now changed her mind. We found her in a car in the parking lot – still alive and going to be just fine.

I hate suicide calls – I think I have said that numerous times. They get under my skin and cut me deeply. I was so thankful none of them were successful but after the 4th one, I didn’t want to answer the phone anymore for fear that there would be another that was successful.

Bad Day To Be A Dog…

Had three dog calls to share:

First up is the guy who was hitting his dog with his fishing pole – apparently the dog distracted him when he had a “huge” fish on the line.

Second was a woman who had been walking her Pomeranian. A pit bull started chasing them. The woman, in her panic, threw the little dog at the raging bigger dog. The pit bull grabbed the little dog and shook it several times, dropped it and walked away. The woman was furious with the homeowner of the pit bull. I asked her if her dog was injured – she said yes, it was bleeding all over and it’s eyes were red. I couldn’t help raising my voice at her when I told her that her dog’s welfare NOW was more important and that she had better get the dog to the animal ER. Pissed me off that first she threw the dog at the oncoming pit bull and then had the audacity to call us BEFORE taking her beloved dog to the ER.

Third, a family dispute erupted when a brother was convinced his sister ran over the family dog on purpose. The dog was fine but they were really going at it.

What a NIGHT!

Where to begin??? Let’s see…

Ok I’m exhausted but I’m going to see if I can write some of this out now.

One of my coworkers had a call from a man who wanted to report a disturbance with his neighbor. When told the police would be there shortly, he said he wouldn’t be available until after the Buc’s ballgame.

One caller called back in to say the three rescuers she had there trying to help her husband couldn’t find a vein in her husbands arm – she wanted us to send her another batch of rescuers.

A guy called in that he was shot. When the call taker got into the more specifics – after hitting the emergency button of course, she found that the man was shot with an infrared light by his alien neighbor.

Had a child who called 911 because her dad hit the mom. The dad hung up the phone but I called her back. The mom answered and said she didn’t need the police. Upon questioning, she admitted her husband hit her repeatedly…sorry folks – the minute violence is implied or confirmed, there is no canceling the police.

Oh…I have more…

ARG! Work Is Closing In

I haven’t gotten a thing done today thus far because I’ve been checking out more rustic cabins. One person has agreed to go so far, haven’t heard from the other.

We are really thinking on Wyoming. There are a few cabins we could hike back to and stay in that have running water but no electricity. It would be great. Some say we have to cut our own wood while others say they have some. I say lets cut our own! They provide the hatchet so why not go for a more rustic experience?

We do have to have running water because face it, we are women and we need to take baths. Some of the cabins are near creeks that we could bathe in but will have to see.

So this is my only post until I get off later tonight – I have to get a few things done quickly before I have to go to work. I hope everyone has a great SUNDAY!

Rats

I can not BELIEVE it is 3 am! Where does the time go? I have to work tomorrow and here I am farting around on the computer. Was hoping to go to this church I’ve been interested in tomorrow as well but it sure is going to be awfully early. {sigh}

Ranger Stations, Watch Towers and Rustic Cabins

I’ve found some rustic cabins by looking on the internet. The Dept of Forestry actually rents out ranger stations, watch towers and rustic cabins that they no longer use. The places are primitive and sound perfect. A watch tower would be neat but I don’t think I’d want to mess with the climb up and down the tower each time I wanted to go outside.

I was leaning towards cabins in Montana as one of my sisters thought that would be a great place to disappear to – but then I found out that they only rent them in the winter time due to grizzly bears so that kind of left that out. I suppose I could be convinced but it talks about hiking in on snow shoes quite a ways so don’t think my sisters would go for that anyway.

There are cabins in other areas that I wouldn’t mind visiting such as Wyoming, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Tennessee, Virginia, and South Carolina. They even have a few in Missouri and Iowa but am not as enthusiastic about those.

Ideally I’d like to go to one of the western states but am thinking it might be better if we went to one that is between Iowa and Florida which pretty much leaves Tennessee, Virginia and South Carolina. The Smoky Mountains are beautiful and home of the Appalachian trail so might be the best bet. I really think if we found a rustic, out in the wilderness, type of cabin we’d really have a good time.

I’ve emailed both of them to see where they weigh in on the matter. They both talk about living a simpler life – more rustic and without modern amenities. We could go for seven days, maybe we’d love it so much we’d want to make it a tradition. I say lets go for it. Let’s piss or get off the pot – put your money where your mouth is – take action instead of fantasizing about it. SOOOO, my sisters, whadya say?

Rustic Cabins

Talking to a couple of my sisters about living a simpler life and/or going back to the old fashioned way of doing things, made me think maybe we should go to one of those rustic cabins out in the mountains. We could rent one for a week – something away from civilization and neighbors. We’d want no electricity so there would have to be a wood burner or fireplace, or both. There would have to be a water source nearby as well.

The place would have to come equipped with most of what we’d need since we’d be limited on what we could hike or horse back ride in. I wouldn’t want to go in cold weather – more like mid-summer.

Does anyone have any ideas where we could find such a place? I’d prefer mountains too.
