I am reading Max Lucado’s book “A Love Worth Giving.” Its topic is practicing patience and love – to your family, fellow believers and even those you don’t like.
Jesus said we are to love our neighbors and our enemies. Even if we can’t stand someone we should show them kindness. This is a very hard thing thing to do. There are people who just get under your skin and being kind to them is harder then cutting off your own hand.
Jesus was kind to everyone and accepted us while we were yet sinners. He welcomed us even when others would reject us. I think about that and it makes me feel a little more humble. I can excuse myself by saying I am not perfect like Jesus – but that excuse only goes so far.
If we just love those who love us – what good is that? Jesus told us to go otu and be fishers of men. He didn’t specify only certain men but all men. We can’t choose just those that we like or approve of. If Jesus had died only for those that deserved to go to heaven…where would that leave us?
