Damn, it is hot out there. I was just going to walk down to the highway and back – eight blocks total. It is too humid to walk farther, I reasoned as I set out.
Well, I got to the highway and there was a guy across the highway that was walking my way. I realized if I turned around I would be walking in front of him on my way back. For some reason, that just didn’t seem like a good idea to me.
I decided to cross the highway, pass him, and just walk to the end of that block. When I got to the end of the block, I thought about how close I was to the bay and why would I walk that far only to stop before seeing it?
Once I got to the bay I decided it was time to head back so I took a shortcut through the art center’s parking lot. By the time I got back to the highway to cross it, I felt sick. The water was all gone and the sun was beating down on my head with no breeze to cool me off.
By the time I reached my block, my legs were getting weak and I was getting that headache that comes when I do something stupid – which in this case was several things.
I didn’t take enough water to make the longer trek, I went in the heat of the day, I didn’t take the route with the most shade, and I haven’t eaten anything yet today.
My hair looks like I’ve been in the shower and my shirt is damp with sweat. You’d think I’d learn.
On the plus side, the bay looked beautiful today!
