Last Breath

“Last Breath” by George D. Shuman was the book chosen for today’s twelve hour shift. I finished it when I got home as I didn’t start it until 3 pm and we were rather busy.

The book is Shuman’s second and I would have to say it was pretty good. I enjoyed the character he reprised from his first book “18 Seconds” – “Sherry Moore” – who is a blind woman who has the gift of being able to see a person’s last 18 seconds of thoughts once they are dead. It isn’t something she can do by touching the living, only the dead. With this gift, she assists law enforcement agencies in finding killers.

I haven’t read the first book but will now that I have finished the second one. The character was memorable enough to want to see how it all started. Some of the supporting characters I didn’t care for but the way he handled the killer and the main character made the book interesting.

I do recommend this book but one may want to read the first one before tackling this one so they know the background on why Sherry is the way she is. I don’t know the answer because I haven’t read the first book. Hmmm…

Gore factor was low in this book and while some of his rhetoric seemed to go on and on and on, overall it was worth checking out. I have one more book to read of the seven I brought home – that one is “Flashback” by Navada Barr. My sister informs me that it is good so at least I know that much about it ahead of time. J I won’t start that one until I do my next 12 hr shift…Friday I guess.

Ah, the New Year

So the new year is almost here and I have to decide what my new year’s resolutions will be. I’m not sure of what to write other then moving to Iowa and getting in shape for Wisconsin. I guess I’ll put that on my “to do” list for the days I have off.

I feel so much better today then I did yesterday. I think work didn’t believe I was sick even though I was. Hope I don’t feel that sick again the rest of my life. Hate being dizzy and having any sliver of light feel like needles in my eyeballs.

My house stinks. It smells like cat litter and urine. I think both animals had “accidents” on the carpet or something. I’m going to have to get new carpet before I move out so the place will rent or sell. This carpet is pretty disgusting. I’d put down tile but doubt I could do a good job at it myself.

Work seemed to drag on and on today even though we were busy and I also was reading. Was very glad when it ended so I could come home. I mailed out a letter to my niece and have others to write to sisters. My list for my days off is quite long – hopefully I have the energy to get it all done.

Endangered Species

“Endangered Species” by Navada Barr could not keep me interested. I was more then a little disappointed in the book – it seemed dry and unexciting. The plot sounded good but it never seemed to congeal like “Blood Lure” did. I’m sure the title “Endangered Species” made sense to someone but not to me.

Loosely explained, rangers that are on a fire watch end up becoming involved with a plane crash with mysterious circumstances. There was nothing all that suspicious to me and I was disappointed in the leading character who, in other books, seems more intuitive then she did in this one.

I would not recommend this book if you have never read Navada Barr before as it wasn’t impressive enough to entice the desire to read more of her stuff. I do say if you want to keep up with her character “Anna Pigeon” then you will have to wade through this book eventually.
