Richly Common

Well, folks, surprise! I’m back on the internet at home. They told me yesterday it would be sometime in the next week but that I should call back today. When I called today they informed me that it was fixed and I was up yesterday. Go figure.

I have to say, its going to be excellent to be back on at home. No more rushing at the library to get applications in before my time is up – what a relief. There’s a job at the University I want to apply to but haven’t been able to yet because it takes too long – now maybe I can. Doubtful though cuz they need me to take a typing test and won’t consider me till that is done. Can’t do that until I’m back in IC. I would really like to get on there again.

I found a house in one of the small towns in Iowa that would work for me but they don’t allow pets and I’m not about to give up mine. Even Simon, the more I think about it the less I’m willing to give the little bugger up. He will just have to be trained to go outside to go potty like the dogs do.

In the elevator I ran into one of our battalion chief’s – he asked me what I’d do if I won the lotto (I never play so that would be quite a miracle). I told him when all was said and done – all the bills paid and the basic things I want bought – I imagine I’d be quite bored being rich. He was so surprised by my answer that he laughed as we descended several floors. He said no one has ever answered him like that before – they all say life would be so great to never have to work again. I told him I need to work at something – I need to keep busy.

Good Day, Good Times

I feel so elated to have my internet back at home! I use it so very much! I am at work so of course I can’t confirm it works – they did tell me one other time it was fixed and it ended up not being but I have a good feeling today. The woman I spoke to was named “Wanda” and as that is my younger sister’s name, I feel it is a good omen. J

Pretty much so far, I’ve had a pretty good day. My walk with Baxter, though on the chilly side, was good as he behaved very well. Then I went to my doctor’s office to pick up lab paperwork and it was actually ready. The lab was busy but my wait wasn’t too bad and this relatively cute guy my age talked to me while I waited.

The lab tech had to prick my arm three times before she hit the vein but she seemed so genuinely remorseful that it didn’t ruin my day either. Got to the library and had a short wait – compared to yesterday anyway – so that was good. I updated my blog and read the comments people had made – two were people who never had commented before so that was nice.

I ran out of time so couldn’t read other people’s blogs but will be able to tonight. Here at work the phones have been consistent but its only four hours so oh well. Only have two of the four hours left to go. My only complaint is my lungs hurt and feel very tight but that could be allergies. I get paid today so maybe I’ll run to the store for some cold coronas or, at the least, some wine coolers.

Darkest Evening of the Year

This book, by Dean Koontz, was all right. It was near as great as his “Frankenstein” or “Odd Thomas” books so that was disappointing.

The storyline follows a woman who comes from a horrific past. She is abandoned at a monastery when she is 2 years old, then grows up and marries a guy that she thinks is just fantastic. She loves living the good life so overlooks some of the things he does. However, eventually she realizes (too late of course) that he married her and had their daughter only to satisfy an inheritance clause his parents had put on him so he couldn’t inherit if he was single and without a child at age 30. When she realizes this, she also realizes that now that he has his money, she and his daughter are just in the way. She escapes a horrific night but not without extreme emotional scars.

Anyhoo, she decides that she is going to rescue dogs for a living and sets out to do that. She starts a foundation for the rescue of golden retrievers and becomes known for that. Of course, the past catches up to her and everything is a mess but an angelic golden retriever comes to her aid in the end.

The story seems to be going along all right and then the author just ends it. I hate when they do that. It is like they got bored or didn’t know what to put in next so they end it quickly. He took the last chapter to summarize what happened on that fateful evening and how the character’s turned out in the end rather then walking a person through it like a good storyteller should.

So would I recommend the book? Nope – not unless this book was sitting on your mantle and you had absolutely nothing else to read. That isn’t to say it is terrible – I just didn’t care for the disinterest he showed in his writing towards the end

Wouldn’t You Know

It is a beautiful day outside today and wouldn’t you know I have to work for four hours. I know, four hours is nothing but it seems like it comes during the height of the day so I don’t get as much done.

Took Baxter for his walk this morning – it was chilly but that was alright, I dressed for it. Decided I’m going to have my hair cut tomorrow…was trying to let it grow to one length but I just can’t stand it anymore. I like playing with the curls but find I put it up more then anything so why mess with it? Might as well have short – wash and go – hair.

Had to go get blood tests done this morning. One of the women ahead of me actually gave the clerk a hard time because she was made to fill out a clipboard sheet with her info on it – just like the rest of us had to. She kept saying “Well, I’m a teacher which makes me special.” Then went on to say how teachers are so under appreciated. The clerk handled it very well but that woman was being so ridiculous.

I feel kind of faint now even though they didn’t take a lot of blood – I suppose the fact that I haven’t eaten or drank anything in 12 hrs is contributing to it. My doctor wants to check my iron levels which are usually too low.

On my way to the library, a woman in a white caddy couldn’t decide which way she wanted to go so she stopped kitty-korner blocking all lanes of traffic on a busy highway. She finally decided to move as horns started blasting – then switched directions mid-point almost hitting another car. The woman looked ancient.

Now I have to go home – get something to eat – and get ready for work. It will be dark when I get off so won’t be taking Baxter to the park as I had hoped.
