I wish

If wishes were quarters, the wishing well would overflow. I’d be rich if I had to pay a dollar for every time I started out a sentence with “I wish”. Maybe I should start out with quarters - put one in a jar for every wish I have.
I don’t mean to say that wishing is a bad thing. I suppose we all do it and we all have wishes that we wish we could zap into reality. I would say that a lot of our wishes are too vague. Let’s take “I wish I was rich”…just what is “rich?” It is such a relative term - what could be rich to a person in a third world would obviously be different from what we would consider rich here in America. No, we need to define that wish better by saying “I wish I had 23.5 million dollars” rather then be so general.
Also, the wish of “I wish I’d meet a nice man” is a dangerous wish. What is nice? What is normal for that matter? Someone like Osama Bin Laden who has killed thousands, might look at someone like Ted Bundy who killed a small few in comparison a “nice” man. Can a nice man still be an alcoholic? Do you want to meet an alcoholic? How about a hobo? Nope, you have a type of man in mind when you make that wish so it should be more specific like “I wish I’d meet a man who is 6′, 190 lbs, brown hair, blue eyes, who has a beautiful smile and uses it often, who has a sense of humor, who has a good job yet is adventurous and fun, etc.” Of course, that is a long wish so you could just say, “I wish I’d meet a man who meets my standards.”
Also you have to be careful about what you wish for where your children are concerned. You might say “I wish my son/daughter would get a great job that they loved” only to find that the “great job” takes them to Africa or some other distant land where you never get to see him/her. See? Wishes can be so tricky.
Right now, I wish I could go to bed and sleep till 2pm. Hey, I can actually do that so guess I can chalk up one wish today that came true! ![]()
