Today I took Baxter and Bennie for a walk right before work. A huge pit bull,
named Baby Boy, charged us when he saw little Bennie walking around. I
scooped Bennie up before the dog got to him but couldn’t get Baxter up in time. Baxter got between us so the pit bull stopped to fight him. I was screaming and trying to get Baxter away from the other dog whose owner came running. We managed to get the dogs apart and he put Baby Boy back inside his apartment. Baxter was not bleeding though he seemed scared and was limping from Baby Boy having his back left thigh in it’s mouth.
I might have called the police but Baxter was not bleeding from anywhere, just shaken. I was badly shaken and upset too – what if that dog had gotten Bennie or seriously injured Baxter? The pit would have killed Bennie had he shaken him like he did Baxter because Bennie is only eight weeks old and is so tiny yet.
I’ve had 3 run ins with this dog – if there is a 4th, I will call the police.
This is the first time he really attacked – the other two times he pulled up
short. I am still upset and wonder if I should go ahead and report the dog even though I told the owner I wouldn’t. I just worry what might happen next time, you know?
So my question is, should I have reported it right then and now,
should I report it at all? The guy did say they are moving and that the
dog was in trouble with the police once before for biting a neighbor of mine.
I just don’t know. I don’t want to get the dog in trouble when it is obviously
part of the owner’s fault. All dogs taken outdoors should be on a leash -
Baxter always is.
