I must say, as I watch the sunrise over Iowa City with it’s big oak and pine trees, that I am happy I am not down around the coastal states right now with this hurricane entering the Gulf. Poor New Orleans ~ if this hurricane hits them things could go bad really fast because the levee’s from Katrina are not repaired yet. I wonder if the levee’s break and the city goes under again if maybe people will see that as a sign that maybe rebuilding in the same location isn’t the brightest idea. I can’t imagine FEMA is going to keep going in there with a bulging pocketbook to help.
Days behind Gustav, is Hannah – a wee bit of a tropical storm that is planning on coming ashore possibly on Florida’s east coast. The waters on both sides of the pennisula should be a good churning as these systems closely shave the state. I’m glad I’m not there.
It is kind of humorous that SSO was locked down four times the year before I started there and already once so far this very active season. If the tropical depressions continue to come off Africa in waves this close together and consistently strengthen to tropical storms or hurricanes, the SSO could easily be locked down another three times before the season officially ends in November (don’t forget, we had a hurricane in December one year).
