Busy As Beavers

Where did the expression “busy as beavers” come from?  Why are beavers particularly busy? I will have to look up beavers and write a post on why they are so busy…but not tonight.

We have been swamped today.  It has been hopping and looks like it will only get worse as the night goes on.  Unfortunately, it looks like it is going to be “mean drunk” night instead of the drunk who is jolly and just wants to have a good time.

The stress of keeping all the suspects straight with what officer is with them is causing chest pains.  Not heart pains, just stress chest pains which hurt but are more of a nuisance than a reason for worry.

Tonight we only have two officers and a Lt on so you would think that would mean we wouldn’t have too much going on but you’d be wrong.  With six guards, plus backing City and County on their calls, we will be drowning until about 3:30 am.  While it is fun to keep busy, the fact that I’m responsible for the safety of my officer’s is never far from my mind.

The one officer who causes me the most stress because he fails to give out his location or the plate number he is stopping is going off duty in about 40 minutes so that will probably alleviate some of chest pains.  He doesn’t understand that if something happened to him, if he hasn’t told me where he is, I can’t send him help.  I try to pound that in his head every weekend.  It would haunt me forever if one of my officers were hurt or killed on my watch.
