Going To The Dogs

I really don’t know where half of the old sayings come from.  Thanks msdane for clearing up the beaver one - it makes sense.

The saying “beating a dead horse” came to mind yesterday – I don’t know where that one came from either.  The above “going to the dogs” one seems more obvious – people throw their scraps and leftovers out to the dogs so I think that is where it comes from.  I may have to look it up though just to satisfy my curiosity.

Baxter and Bennie had a very nice time at my son’s house while I was at a conference in Des Moines the past several days.  My son said they played with his three dogs the entire time and rarely complained.  He does feed them different food than I do but he said my dogs loved it so guess I will be changing to gravy train rather than the puppy chow I’ve been feeding them.  They have never seemed impressed with the puppy chow but have tolerated it because that was what I served.

Both dogs are happy to be home though the first thing they wanted to do was go for a walk.  My son has a huge fenced in yard so they had been outside enjoying that already and since it started raining, I wasn’t too inclined to walk them.

I am happy to be home too.  The conference was rather dry but I pretty much expected it would be.  Luckily most of the instructors spiced it up with stories, videos and other forms of entertainment.  One instructor had difficulty keeping the class engaged because he basically gave us a handout and than spent two hours reading it to us.  I can read myself, thank you very much.

The class was on criminal justice confidential, secret squirrel things so I can’t share the contents with you – suffice it to say some of the stuff was riveting.  I am already certified in the State of Iowa so most of the stuff I already knew but going over it again never hurts.  On the final exam, I missed two out of fifty – those were from not reading the question and answers fully before making my selection.   Would have liked to have gotten a 100% but will settle with the score I got.

Denise has really been on my mind the past three days.  I suppose it is because we went over kidnappings and murder.  Wish I could put it behind me but it is so difficult.  I sat there listening to her beg and plead for her life…don’t know that I will ever get over it.  Just wish the trial would get over with so there could be some closure.

Life is so short people.  We never know what day might be our last.  My motto in life has always been to seize the day – don’t wait until tomorrow because tomorrow is promised to no one.  Be a good friend to those you know, make new friends with those around you; laugh a lot; give lots of hugs; and don’t wait to tell someone what they mean to you.  I guarantee you, the good things that you don’t say are the things that you will regret later.  It is never wrong to be encouraging, uplifting, and caring towards our fellow human beings – becoming more like Jesus in this respect is a quest we are on our entire Christian lives.
